Fire Chief's General Responsibilities
- Directs the operations of the Fire Department and all activities and performs all related work as required.
- Work involves responsibility for the protection of life and property from fires, etc. for the District.
- Makes recommendations for purchase and maintenance of supplies and equipment in order to meet the requirements for fire department operations and the general protection of the District.
- Responsible for preparation of complete budget estimates and administration of same.
- Serves as the final authority for administering of fire prevention, inspection and public education programs.
- Responsible for the effective and efficient use of personnel and equipment in carrying out firefighting activities.
- Responsible for making certain that all department policies and procedures are communicated to all personnel and administered in a fair and efficient manner.
- Responsible, with assistance of training officer, for maintaining standards for training and personal protection as required.
- Responsible for coordinating an effective education program and for assuring that all officers and firefighters are adequately trained to carry out their respective tasks.
- Basic work is performed under the direction of the fire commission, with entrusted authority to supervise department operations and accomplish desired objectives and results without daily interference.
- Work is reviewed through results achieved and through conferences, meetings and discussions with the commission.
