Apparatus Descriptions
Engine 11 | 1997 Pierce Quantum Custom Fire Engine
Powered by a Detroit Series 60, 430 hp Diesel Engine, Allison Automatic Transmission with a 2,000 Gallon Per Minute (GPM) Waterous Pump. It has a 750 gallon water tank.
The truck was manufactured by the Pierce Manufacturing Company, in Appleton Wisconsin and bought through Spartan Fire & Emergency Apparatus in Spartanburg, SC.
The truck has a full compliment of equipment on the “Rescue Style” body and features a top-mount pump operator’s panel, front bumper line, a personnel capacity of six firefighters. This unit also carries a Cairns, Viper color indicating thermal.
Engine 21 | 1999 Pierce Saber Pumper
Powered by a Detroit Series 40 300 HP Engine, Allison MD-3060 Automatic Transmission, 1250 GPM Waterous Pump and a 1000 gallon water tank. The truck was manufactured by Pierce Manufacturing Co. in Appleton, Wisconsin.
Engine 31 | 2008 Pierce Velocity Pumper
Powered by a Detroit Series 60 455 HP Engine with a 1500 Gallon Per Minute (GPM) Waterous Single Stage Fire Pump and a 750 Gallon Water Tank.
The truck was manufactured by the Pierce Manufacturing Company, in Appleton Wisconsin and bought through Spartan Fire & Emergency Apparatus in Spartanburg, SC.
This truck has a full compliment of Firefighting and Rescue Equipment including a portable Hurst automobile extrication unit. It also features a side mount operator’s pump panel, a quick attack front bumper line as well as a 2 ½ inch Blitz Attack rear line and a personnel capacity of six.

The truck was manufactured by the Pierce Manufacturing Company, in Appleton Wisconsin and bought through Spartan Fire & Emergency Apparatus in Spartanburg, SC.

Engine 12 | 1995 International Pumper/Tanker
This unit is also housed at HQ and serves as a tanker for rural water supply applications and as a reserve pumper to cover other front-line engines when they are out of service for repair or maintenance.
It is a 1995 commercial chassis truck with an International diesel engine and an Allison automatic transmission. The body and truck was manufactured by Pierce Manufacturing and has a 1250 gallon water tank and a 1250 GPM Waterous Pump.
It is also equipped with a quick dump and dual rear tank fill valves. The water tanker equipment on this truck is to serve the rural areas of the district where water from fire hydrants and water mains is not available.
Ladder 11 | 2003 Pierce 100’ Platform Truck
This is currently the most recent addition to the apparatus fleet and replaces a 30 year old 85 foot ladder truck that was purchased used in 1993.
The new truck is a Pierce Dash 100’ Aerial Platform truck with a Custom cab and chassis, Detroit Series 60 500HP engine, Allison EVS 4000 automatic transmission, a 300 gallon water tank, and a 2000 GPM Waterous single stage pump.
The truck is fully equipped with two elevated master streams capable of flowing the full 2000 GPM of water, supplied air breathing system to the basket, fully multiplexed electronics, ABS brakes, Pierce Command Zone system, Independent front suspension and full compliment of ladder truck equipment. This truck went in service in August of 2003.
M-31 | 1992 International Rescue/Service Truck
This unit is a 5-man cab Service truck that is equipped with a full range of service equipment for specialized operations.
The Chassis is a 1992 International/ Hackney Rescue body service truck. The unit is actually a refurbished beverage body that was rebuilt for the current use. The original refurbished job was done by Hackney& Sons, Inc. in Washington NC.
The truck is equipped with a breathing air fill station, confined space rescue equipment, spill control equipment, a 10 KW electric generator, light tower, auxiliary lighting, portable generators, and full service truck equipment.
Brush 41 | Grass and Woods Fires Truck
Brush 41 is a 1999 Ford F350 Crew Cab 4x4 1-ton truck. This unit was recently refurbished by PBFD personnel with a new tank, pump and rear body. The truck is housed at Station 4 and responds District wide as needed for grass and woods fires. This Truck is equipped with various Wildland Firefighting tools and equipment and is readably able to respond mutual aid in both Spartanburg and Greenville County.
Car 10 | 2010 BMW X5
This is the fire chief’s vehicle and is driven daily for use as a staff vehicle. This car is provided at no cost to the District (other than fuel, insurance and maintenance) by the BMW Manufacturing Company.
Car 9 | 2006 Chevy Impala
This is a staff vehicle that is driven by the Assistant Chief of Adminstration.
Car 8 | 2004 Ford Expedition
This unit is assigned to the on duty shift officer for response and general duties. The vehicle is equipped with 2-VHF radios, 1-UHF radio, a command console (provided by and installed by Light-n-up) in the rear which contains 2-dry erase boards, maps, accountability board, Panasonic Toughbook with a direct GPS link to 911 CADD dispatch, and numerous reference materials.
Car 3 | Fire Marshal's Vehicle
2001 Ford Taurus Fire marshal’s Vehicle, used by the Fire Marshal for daily use in the Inspection and fire prevention programs.
Utility 11 | 2005 Ford F-250
This truck is used by the Station personnel as a general duty light truck for errands, towing, and other daily activities. The unit is diesel powered, equipped with 4-wheel drive, towing package and emergency warning equipment. This vehicle is the primary transport for mutual aid response with the Ranger or Rescue boats.
2006 Polaris Ranger
This unit was purchased in 2006 through a grant from Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company. The unit is 4 wheel drive, has a front mounted 4,000lb. winch, it is capable of towing our rescue boats to areas that are inaccessible by other vehicles. It is also equipped with patient transport capabilities.
Rescue Boats
The District currently owns and operates 3 Swiftwater Rescue boats to respond to Flood Emergency’s within the district. These boats can also can be deployed anywhere within Spartanburg and Greenville County as Mutual Aid in the event of Flood conditions.
1998 Avon FRB 380 inflatable semi-rigid floor rescue boat
The boat is equipped with a Johnson gas powered 20 HP motor and full water rescue equipment
2006 Star Inflatable self bailing
1994 Zodiak Inflatable equipped with a gas powered Evinrude 35 HP motor and full water rescue equipment. These boats are housed at station 4 for use anywhere within the District or Counties.
M-18 | Spartanburg EMS Quick Response Vehicle
Station 4 also houses a QRV unit, Medic 18 that is owned and operated by Spartanburg County EMS (Emergency Medical Services).
This vehicle responds from our station with a Paramedic to stabilize patients until a transport ambulance can arrive. Medic 18 covers the entire Spartanburg County portion of our district as well as parts of Greer, Reidville, Woodruff, the GSP Airport, BMW and back-up to other areas on the western side of Spartanburg County.

Greer Engine 4 | 1991 Sutphen
Powered by a Detroit Series 6V92 Diesel Engine, Allison Automatic Transmission with a 750 Gallon Per Minute (GPM) Hale Pump. It has a 750 gallon water tank. This truck was built by Sutphen Manufacturing in Hillard, Ohio.
